Puddle
Working in ways and with mediums that are hopefully less damaging to the earth. Every day I walk in rural Scotland, I have been documenting the landscape here in film for a long time. With this work I was thinking about systems. How polluted the puddle is by one system of production and how that pollution from farm run off is invisible and how this sits aside other invisible energies I consider as an artist. Thinking about ideas of minimal mediation and how to sit in the centre of competing systems of production and hold a space without an assertion that becomes another mediation with its own cost, trying to be minimal with this maximal object. Trying to figure it out, knowing that I probably won't but just enjoying the contemplation of it all anyway.
This work is made in fabric and thread and is stuffed in places and the backing is lightly quilted in places and it is mounted on a frame support but it remains soft to the front. 40cm x 40cm central square not including overhanging fabric.
